Background
The United Nations Office for South-South Cooperation (UNOSSC) is mandated to promote, coordinate and support South-South cooperation throughout the United Nations (UN) system and globally.
Among its functions, UNOSSC serves as the substantive secretariat of the High-level Committee on South-South Cooperation, the main policy-making body on South-South cooperation in the UN system and a subsidiary of the General Assembly.
UNOSSC drafts the report of the Secretary-General on the state of South-South cooperation in consultation with various UN bodies as well as relevant non-UN partners.
It also promotes the mainstreaming of South-South cooperation into programming processes, producing inter-agency instruments such as guidelines; mobilizes financial resources for South-South cooperation; and implements specific projects and activities. UNOSSC further produces publications on topics that are of particular relevance to countries of the South.
